Yoruba People Antique Carved Wood Mancala Board, Colonial Nigeria, West Africa.
Perhaps Made From Treated Mahogany, There Is A Resin Or Glaze Over The Piece. The Character’s Hats With Balls At The End, Their Faces, And General Artistic Style Look Exactly Like Other Yoruba Pieces. The Quality Of The Hardware, And A Faint Oder Indicate The Piece Is Very Old. My Best Guess Is Between The Late 19th And Early 20th Centuries. There Is Evidence That There Was Some Kind Of Clasp That Kept The Piece Closed, But Unfortunately It Is Not Present.
The Piece Measures Approximately 20 x 12 x 1 Inches While Open, And Weighs About 2.25 lbs.
