    Description

    African Benin or Cote d'Ivoire bronze metal figure of a proud and stoic warrior riding his faithful horse into battle while holding an ax or spear. The horse is fully decorated and ready  to serve his master. Measures approximately 5 5/8 inches in height. Good surface patina. Please note it is possible the rider is a foreigner or an emissary from a northern emirate coming to visit or engage in trade or diplomacy. It is also possible
    that the horseman is modelled after Oranmiyan (c.1200) the founder of the present dynasty and reputed to have introduced horses into Benin.....or so I have read.
    Overall good condition as described and photographed above with minor wear from age and normal use....otherwise in good decorative order and ready for display.
