    Description

Old Attie Power Figure - Cote d'Ivoire
    Hard wood,
    brass studs,
cm. 33,0 high (12.99"). Grams 608,4 (21.46 oz.). Beautiful patina.
An Attie sculpture of the Lagune people, a healing sculpture from the Lagoon-people, Ivory Coast; the brass pins aren´t signs of scarifications, how it’s written sometimes in Western literature, they are places for ritual medicine; traces of kaolin all over the sculpture.
The Attie are one of the Lagoons people and are southern neighbors of the Baule. Attie figures are, like those of the Baule, among the most elegant and designed pieces in Africa. The distinctive style of the Attie includes more bulbous limbs, with a ryhthm of bulges and constrictions. The heads and eyes are large and scarification is often imitated by small wood pegs.
