Antique Turkana Tribe Wood Hide Covered Quiver Metal Tipped Arrows Kenya, Africa

Description

This is a rare antique hunters hand carved wooden arrow quiver which is covered in animal hide with the dark brown fur still intact which also has a hand woven plant fiber carrying strap and two handmade bamboo arrows with metal arrowheads which were made and used by the African Turkana Tribe, located in northwestern Kenya, Africa. The Turkana are a Nilotic people native to the Turkana County in northwest Kenya, a semi-arid climate region bordering Lake Turkana. They are mainly semi-nomadic pastoralists who also practice light small game hunting. The Turkana are noted for raising camels and weaving baskets. In their oral traditions, they designate themselves the people of the grey bull, after the Zebu, the domestication of which played an important role in their history. This antique Turkana
quiver measures 18 inches long by 2.50 inches wide at the bottom base. The arrows measure 22.55 inches long and 20.20 inches long and each has a hand-forged metal arrowhead or small spear tip embedded in each of the two bamboo reeds. The arrow with the unbroken shaft has a very thin piece of snakeskin wound around the end of the shaft. Good rustic antique tribally made and used condition with wear to the furry hide covering the quiver, the handmade woven plant fiber carrying strap has one broken strand and one arrow shaft is broken on the end.
