    This is an antique
    Gurage
    African Peoples
    hand carved and used wooden bowl or plate whic
    h was collected from Ethiopia, Africa.
    This rare, antique Ethiopian Gurage bowl measures 11.50 inches across the top of the bowl from one side to the other side, 36.50 inches diameter around the top rim of the bowl and is 5 inches tall at the highest point and 4.50 inches at the lowest side.
    This bowl is in great antique condition with a few slight cracks.
    This antique bowl has a small hole drilled in the side of the rim which is for a string to be threaded through for hanging the bowl on the wall of the house when not in use.
    The Gurage people of Africa
    traditionally inhabit a
    fertile, semi-mountainous
    region in southwest Ethiopia,
    about 125 kilometers
    southwest of Addis
    Ababa.The Gurage people
    live a sedentary life based
    on agriculture, involving a
    complex system of crop
    rotation and transplanting.
    Ensete is the main staple
    food, but other cash crops
    are grown, they also raise
    animals mostly for milk
    supply and dung.
