This is a handmade, authentic, Ethiopian Orthodox Christian, hand carved wooden altar . This Ethiopian altar is made up of two carved pieces of wood which have small holes drilled in the sides through which string is strung like hinges so that this piece opens like a book. This wooden altar is decorated on the front, back and inside with inlaid hand carved stone pieces and one hand painted religious scene. This Christian altar measures 11 inches long by 5.40 inches wide with the door closed.  With the door open the altar is 9.70 inches wide. This Ethiopian wooden altar is in great condition with a small chip of wood missing from the top inside door panel right above the painting and some wear to the wood on the front outside lower right hand corner of the altar. This piece has been in my personal collection for 15 years. This Ethiopian icon altar would be a beautiful addition to any Ethiopian collection.
