    Description

This is an antique, wooden, African, Luba, stool chair which was tribally hand carved from a single piece of wood which features a kneeling female Caryatid figure. This African stool was made and used by the Luba people and was collected in the Congo, Africa. Most Luba art relates to kings and important chiefs, who defined their power by the display of prestige objects during important ceremonies. Stools were among the most important of these objects. This African Luba stool measures 10 1/2 inches across the top with a circumference of 33 inches around the top of the seat and a circumference of 32 inches around the base and is 14.25 inches tall. This stool weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces. Good antique rustic used condition with a crack on the top of the seat and on the bottom base which have been tribally repaired. The crack on the base resulted from a hollow area on the underneath side of the base from wood loss. Also, some cracks to the legs one of which was also tribally repaired. This specimen is very desirable and would make a fine addition to any African collection.
