    Description

    An excellent Bakongo figure from the 1800's. Collected before it was made into a nkisi, this figure shows the pure intent of the artist, even down to the still visible "sanding" marks caused by rubbing the wood smooth with a stone. I have had this for several years but the previous owner was an independent film studio. I was told it was purchased at one of the large auction houses in the 1980's to be used for a movie, then put in the prop department. Exceedingly rare! Height 14". Medium-dense, somewhat fragrant wood.
