    Description

Extraordinarily rare and desirable 1930 cocktail formulary. - Bar - Barware - Bartender
    Note from the Consigner:
My greatest find while working on the book Contraband Cocktails
came when I bought a privately printed American book published in March of 1930 entitled
    My New Cocktail Book.
The book was discovered in a library used book sale.
The author is G. F. Steele. The book
is so rare to the point where I cannot find a single copy in any
library including the Library of Congress or the New York Public Library or any of the other libraries listed on WorldCat. There is a later new edition published five years later which is extremely rare: and which differs in content.
Several Libraries have copies of the 2
    nd
    edition.
This book contains a fascinating array of odd cocktails. Under the letter L for example, we have the
League of Nations, Loftus, Logan, Lone Tree, Los Angeles, and the Lusitania. The Lusitania (named for the British Ocean Liner sunk by German U-Boats in 1915) for example is a mix of:
    2/3 French Vermouth
    1/3 Good Brandy
    Dash Orange bitters
    Dash Absinthe
There is a special section on the real mint julep, traditional eggnog ( here spelled Egg Nogg) and drinks attributed to famous people, including one favored by the Prince of Wales (which appears in the book by way of a Montreal bartender.)
What is also fascinating about this book is that it contains facing blank pages after each letter of the alphabet presumably for readers to write or paste in their own recipes.
